Steam Sale

June 23, 2017 - News Post

Today’s comic is dedicated to a friend/coworker who CONVENIENTLY sprained an ankle and couldn’t come into the office this morning. We all believe you, and hope you “get well soon”.

The Steam Summer Sale, for those who are unfamiliar, is one of the largest PC Game sales of the year. This is not an advertisement, just one of the many consumer crazes that I get excited about. Thousands of games from thousands of developers can be purchased for a small fraction of their full price.

And with the Steam Sale, it occurs to me that I’ve mentioned 4 different products and companies in my comic during the month of June... Is that too much?

I’ve seen comics that reference fictitious brands and products, and others that seem to mention one brand or another in every single strip. It might not seem like it, but putting brand names in my comic is something I struggle with.

Don’t Hit Save used to mention a lot more games, stores, pieces of hardware, in a positive light. I love things like the Leap Motion Controller, Kerbal Space Program, and Visual Studio, so I wanted to point that out. This was mostly during the early days, but I stopped doing it when I felt the comics were starting to look sponsored (they weren’t). Now, I try to avoid naming specific products unless something makes the news.

I want to be honest with my opinions. Like all of you, there are certain products I enjoy and others I despise. If a company is being crappy, I like to call attention to it. If something is awesome, I’d like to say that too. But I don’t want to overdo it. There are plenty of other things I can talk about.

What do you guys think? Have I hit the right balance? Do I need to back off or bring up more? Do you even notice or care? Let me know.

Send me your opinion, but don’t expect a quick reply ... I plan on spending all of my free time in the next few days buying and playing games. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Steam is having a huge sale. They have some pretty good deals.
