Section 702

January 12, 2018 - News Post

There's a storm coming.

I'm not talking about the House of Representatives rejecting privacy safeguards and extending FISA Section 702. I already whined about that in the comic. Golly gee, why would I worry about something with so little potential for abuse?!? That's silly. You're silly.

No, I'm talking about the literal ice storm that's heading my way in a few hours.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little nervous. We seem to lose power or internet with the slightest breeze, and the last major storm took weeks for us to recover. It could be a long, cold weekend. Soooo, if I don't appear online for a while, don't take it personally... unless your name is Nick. That guy is the worst.

In other news, my plan to go without R-rated violence has been moderately successful. For those of you who missed my post, I decided to avoid gruesome violence in my entertainment for 30 days. I won't watch anything that will traumatise a 10-year-old. I wanted to see what it would do to me, but violence has been harder to avoid than I thought.

I'm 11 days in, and I've only seen 2 realistic murders, three blood splatters, and one weird thing done to an eye. These were (I hope) all fictional portrayals of violence, but they popped up in otherwise innocent looking YouTube videos, random movies, and tv shows. I probably could've done better, but my wife got sick and had the TV on more than usual. Still, I'm making an effort, and it seems to have slightly lowered my stress level. I'll give you the full report at the end of the month.

That's about it for now. I need to deal with my emotions before the ice storm arrives. The part of me that hates ice in my drinks is mortified, but the part of me that loves snow is excited.

Thank you to everyone who posted in the comments. It was truly wonderful to see both my readers to make so many fake accounts. Keep those comments coming!

2018-01-13 Edit - The storm is over. Everything is covered in patchy snow and ice, but the fact that I’m posting this means we didn’t lose power or internet. Still, the roads are treacherous, and I already spent part of Friday cleaning and organizing. I'll probably continue working on that.

What a waste of a perfectly good weekend.
