My day started off with a bang.
I woke up around 6:30, let the dogs out, then heard a loud crunching noise. I immediately looked in the backyard to see what the dogs had knocked over, but couldn't find anything. No broken gutter, no smashed windows, and the dogs didn't look nearly guilty enough. I gave up my search and headed back into the house. As I neared the door, I saw what it was:
A car had driven into the ditch across the street.
I wasn't two minutes into my conscious day, and it was already exciting. One of my neighbors had backed his car out of the driveway, driven two houses down, and meandered into a ditch right in front of me. He wasn't far from the road, yet the front bumper was caught juuuuuust enough on a driveway for his wheels to be off the ground. Oops. He apparently was checking his cell phone.
It took almost two hours for a tow truck to yank the car out and unblock my view. Firetrucks, police, and an ambulance came. This was a terrible inconvenience for me. I can't believe the nerve of my neighbor. What if I was expecting guests at 7am? How were they supposed to get to my driveway with all those trucks out there?
No one was hurt, the emergency crews left after a couple minutes, so I feel safe making my cruel jokes.
Anyway, that gave me some much-needed perspective. It's been a long week. I got sick, we had a leaky pipe in the house, our car was towed… life is not perfect, but I didn't go through anything as bad as a car accident. Our car is fine, I'm surviving, and in a month or two I'll even let the landlord know about the leaky pipe. Everything is good (enough).
I hope all is well in your world, and that all of your road trips are safe. Be careful with those cellphones. If, however, you do decide to run your car off the road, I highly recommend the ditch across the street. It won't help you, but it'll give me something exciting to watch.
