Apologies for the late comic. I had some trouble being funny. I know that’s never stopped me before, but I was shaken by this week’s events, some of which were traumatic.
Seriously, I am warning you that this is not my typical news, and it is not really my story to tell. If you’re troubled by real-life violence, or if you’re looking for humor, maybe skip this one.
For everyone else, here is what dominated my week:
- My wife Shannon works as an environmental scientist. That job involves a government contract.
- One of the many shooting sprees this week took place not far from where she works.
- Those in her office were told via an emergency message that there was an active shooter “in the building”. There was no word otherwise for 15 minutes. The building went on lockdown, people barricaded the door with furniture.
- This led to several emotional text exchanges between her and myself, each one of which written as though it might be our last.
- Although everything turned out physically fine for my wife, several people didn’t come home this week.
- I think she’s dealing with this better than I am, but we both seem to have some weird delayed reactions over the whole thing.
So yeah. Fucked up.
I’m off hang out with Shannon now.
