Happy New Year!
Thought I’d start the year out right with a heavy-handed comic about office politics. My office has been the worst lately.
So what did you do to celebrate the New Year? I went to a neighborhood party.
As someone who grew up on the east coast of the US, it’s always been unnatural to see the Times Square countdown from different timezones. Here in Hawaii, it's a bit extreme. We start the celebration at 7pm, and then do a countdown every hour until midnight arrives. The networks quit broadcasting the celebrations after Seattle has gone to sleep, but that didn’t stop anyone here from partying.
To be honest, I don’t care that much about the mark of a new year. It’s an arbitrary date change, fireworks explode from noon until 1am, and I’m not really a drinker (one of this holiday’s chief appeals). With all that being said, I don’t let that stop me from going out and having a great time. It’s nice to drop everything, hang with friends, and de-stress once in a while (see today’s comic for a potential source of stress). Who wouldn’t want to count down from 10 five times in a row?
Speaking of countdowns, did anyone check out the Dr. Lobster website lately? You probably should.
After staying up until 5am, I spent the entirety of New Years day working. That was dumb, but it was still nice to relax the night before. Hell, after a night like that, it was relaxing to get back in front of the computer.
If you can, take a moment or two to relax. I’m sure you need it.
Edit on 2020-01-05: Yes, I slightly changed this comic-- I needed to add a touch more humor. Good luck finding it.
