It’s Annual Review time!

Once a year every year, I put on my red shirt, sit at my orange desk, and re-read my own comic. It’s a harrowing experience.

Nevertheless, I do this for you, the reader. And this year had some oddities.

Without forcing myself to write a longer intro than necessary, here is my look back on the sixth year of the Don’t Hit Save...

Favorite Comics

  • Cubicle
Solid, short joke? Check. Strange, child-based comic? Check plus. After a long hiatus, it was fun to come back and be weird for a while. It’s my hope that the kid stuff annoyed some readers. This was my favorite of the batch.
  • Senior Developer
After years of flawless service, I was sad to see my semicolon break. It was nice to give it a proper comic sendoff.
  • Invite
Good or bad, these comics act as bookmarks tracking important events in my life. It’s nice when those bookmarks turn out funny.

Least Favorite Comics

  • Caring
I had a few things going on in life. I was struggling to get anything at all out, and this comic is a strong indicator of that. I did a little bit to keep the storyline going, to keep things up with my real life, but there was too much going on to be funny. This is the sat on my site for months and is BY FAR my least favorite for the year.
  • 37 dollars
This isn’t a bad joke per se. It makes some poignant statements about the world. That being said, I took what should have been a 40-minute diatribe and attempted to condense it to four panels. I’m not entirely satisfied here.
  • Supportive
Nope. I needed one more panel to get this right. I am ashamed by the pacing in this one.

Important Milestones

  • Playtime
Jeff and Ricky are laid off. For good. I wonder if that will have lasting impact on the comic…
  • Don’t Hit Save Babies
After an excessively long break and some unsteady posting, it was nice to come back to regular comics in an irregular way.

Unimportant Milestones

  • Juice
Anyone can de-age a human, but did you notice that Mr. Battles was changed to a vintage-style action figure? No? Why do I bother with these things? I’ve modified character art in the past, but never action figure art. Why did I list this under unimportant milestones?
  • Treats
First comic to show, not imply, eating. (Holding or sitting in front of food doesn't count)

And with that, Don't Hit Save is seven years old. What a thrilling, exciting, hilarious, educational past year it’s been for us all. The comics were adequate, too.
